Abstract

Medical science has advanced and accomplished remarkable progress in technology intensive medical device, innovative surgery methods, and cutting-edge bio drugs. Although the science and practice of medicine have power originated with its good intend and effective outcomes for ill individuals, they are still limited and the unwanted outcomes seems not to be avoidable due to human errors and mistakes. This paper was purposed to mainly discuss about the uncertainty and the imperfections in medical fields through reviewing several relevant books especially with the book of “Complications: A Surgeon’s Notes on an Imperfect Science”. While the stakes are costly for tragic errors and near misses, we are always forced to make a decision in medical fields. To confront and manage the fallibility and uncertainty that lie at the heart of modern medicine, we should first accept and recognize them and then, make every endeavor to reduce them. Care delivery system improvements, better communication and effective cooperation between all medical counterparts are suggested by the authors.
