Abstract

‘Digoxin toxicity’, which occurs occasionally when taking digoxin, is a very serious adverse drug reaction that can be life-threatening. Overdosed digoxin induces yellow vision or blurred vision, a type of visual impairment that affects the retina of the eye, and causes confusion, bulimia, tiredness, loss of appetite, Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The case reported here is a case in which a pharmacist at a community pharmacy improves patient safety from potentially dangerous side effects by accurately understanding and quickly responding to toxic effects of the drug when treating patients taking digoxin. The role of pharmacists as a drug side effect manager is becoming more important as the population aging and polypharmacy are becoming common. In this case, pharmacists should accurately understand the toxic effect of digoxin, and if patients taking digoxin complain of adverse reactions such as hypersensitivity during drug use, they should suspend digoxin toxicity and promptly inform their doctor or visit their medical institution.
