Self-medication is defined as “the selection and use of medicines by individuals to treat self recognized illnesses or symptoms”. The use of self-medication has been growing with increased use of non-prescription drug. The key role of pharmacists in self-medication is to make triage decision. Triage is the process of determining the priority of treatments based on the severity of patients’ condition. In case of self medication, people are triaged into three groups; people who needed to see a doctor, needed medication, and not required any product. For appropriate triage, pharmacist should collect the clinical information needed. The clinical information elicited during the interview should include the age of the patient, the duration of symptom, current medical conditions, and other specific situation that would contraindicated a certain product. The pharmacist update information about non-prescription drug to provide objective information about medicine and must be prepared to help the patient make appropriate self-medication choice.
